The whole block east of Elgin Street has been demolished in the late 30's to make room for the wider street that we all know nowadays.  The NAC and the First World war Memorial succeeded the post office and the Russell House, a prestigious hotel in Ottawa.

The building that is located on the left-hand side of the image was the Grand Union Hôtel.
