The image works here are not from the same viewpoint, making them misleading. The old image is taken from Bank Street looking North, the new one is, as is the title, taken from Sparks street looking East. The domed building to the right, thankfully, has not been demolished but is visible under renovation behind the scaffolding to the left of the second picture. If you were to check Google Streetview, you could see where the Corinthian columns and arches extend across the ground floor.
