This comparison shows how much Lowertown East had changed when the urban renewal program of the City of Ottawa was implemented in the late 1960s. 

The plan had for mission to clean up the blight houses of the area and to segregate the different usages required by the community.  

Clearly, Notre-Dame Street was not part of the plan and was replaced by the École secondaire De-La-Salle.

The only building still up is the Embassy of the People's Republic of China on the right on the photo.
