This photo shot in 1963 by Malak Karsh, "Paper & Politics", shows how still industrial was the Quebecer's side of the Ottawa River.

This photo became popular as it was used at the back of the 1 dollar bill which was printed 3.4 billions of times between 1974 and 1989.

This is one of the few image comparisons where the modern view is "better" than the earlier/historical view (even if less interesting). Cleaning up the Ottawa River meant the end of the lumber trade and using rafts to transport logs. Maybe we'll be able to drink the water from the Ottawa some day...
